What is Electricity and Types of Electricity

Today in this article we will know about what is electricity.  everyone is using electricity but there are very few people who know what electricity actually is.

In this article, we are going to give you complete information related to electricity. After reading this article, you will get to know everything related to electricity like – what is electricity, how many types are there, what are the advantages and disadvantages of electricity, how electricity is made etc.

To get all the information about electricity, definitely read the article till the end.

What is Electricity?

In simple words, electricity is such energy with the help of which light, heat and power can be generated. By generating power from electricity, any work can be done by machines.

Everything in this world is made up of molecules. Molecules are made up of smaller atoms and atoms are made up of three parts which are protons, neutrons and electrons.

Protons have positive charge so protons are positive, neutrons have no charge so neutrons are neutral and electrons have negative charge due to which electrons are negative.

In the middle of the atom (center) is the nucleus of the atom, which consists of protons and neutrons. Whereas electrons keep revolving continuously in the atom's orbit.

Atoms have some free electrons that move through a conductor. The movement of electrons through the conductor is called current.

The light, heat or power produced due to current is called electricity. In today's time we cannot imagine our life without electricity. Electricity has become our daily need.

Types of Electricity

There are 2 types of electricity. First Static electricity and second Dynamic electricity. We will tell you in detail about both types of electricity.

Static Electricity

Static electricity is a kind of imbalance inside the material or on the surface of the material. Static electricity remains in charge until it is able to move away through an electrical discharge or electrical current.

Static electricity cannot be transferred from one place to another. Static electricity is produced by rubbing two things or due to friction. The electricity which is produced due to friction or rubbing is called static electricity.

Static electricity is made in the following ways.

Sometimes while combing the hair, with the help of the comb, the hair starts standing in the air, due to which the static electricity is generated.

In big industries, static electricity is generated while rotating the material.

Dynamic Electricity

Dynamic electricity is called that in which the charge flows through the conductor. In other words, dynamic electricity is also called electric current.

Dynamic electricity can be carried from one place to another. Dynamic electricity is used in homes and everywhere.

Dynamic electricity is made with the help of Nuclear power station, Thermal power station, Hydraulic power station, Solar power station, Wind power station.

There are two types of dynamic electricity which are mentioned below.

Direct Current (DC) – Direct current is the current which flows in only one direction and does not change its direction. An electrochemical cell such as a battery is the best example of direct current. Direct current not only flows in conductors but it can also flow in semi-conductors and insulators.

Alternating Current (AC) – Alternating current is that which does not flow in one direction, it changes its direction continuously. Alternating current is used more. The current we use in the house is Alternating Current.

Importance of Electricity

Although there is no need to tell the importance of electricity or electricity, but still we imagine how it would be if we had to live life without electricity.

Today our habit has become such that even if there is a power cut for some time, then it becomes difficult for us to take time without electricity.

Today's environment has become so bad that it is difficult to live without AC or coolers. Electricity is required to run machines like ACs and coolers. All these machines will not work without electricity.

In such a situation, it is very difficult for anyone to live without AC or coolers in today's environment. The way global warming is increasing, today AC has become a necessity for more people than a hobby or trend.

Today, even for cleaning the house, we use machines like vacuum cleaners, which also require electricity to run.

Today RO purifiers are being used to clean and drink water, which requires electricity to run.

Electricity is also needed to charge devices like Smartphones, Laptops etc. And the most important requirement which is in our life is light. It is very difficult to live life in the dark. Therefore, the most important requirement is the light which we get due to electricity.

Today electricity has become an integral part of our life. With the help of electricity, today we are using such machines and devices which we use in our daily life.

It is very difficult to have the possibility of life without electricity. The mere thought of living life without electricity is terrifying.

How is electricity made?

There are many ways to genrate Electricty.

  • Turbine
  • Nuclear Power
  • Geothermal Power
  • Wind Power
  • Biomass

Advantages of Electricity

Electricity gives us light in the dark and heat in the cold.

Electricity also generates power, using which we make our life easier by using many machines like – washing machine, vacuum cleaner, fan etc.

Using electricity, we charge our everyday devices like smartphones, laptops etc.

Disadvantages of Electricity

Electricity has a very strong current, due to which sometimes a very strong current is applied and some people die.

Electricity sometimes also damages our devices and machines. Sometimes electricity comes in the form of high voltage in homes, due to which machines get damaged.
